Random Wrestling Match Review (March 2, 2012)

Welcome to my Random Wrestling Match Review. Each match I review is randomly selected by using a random number generator to select a number. After getting my random number, I go to my list of 454 wrestling matches on DVD and review the match that has that number. For this review, I selected the number 384. The match I will review is...

Jack Swagger and The Miz vs. Primo and Kofi Kingston (WWE Superstars- September 10, 2009)

Finally, a match from my personal collection. This match is not on any official WWE DVD. I have this match on DVD because it was a WWE Superstars match that was taped prior to the September 7, 2009 episode of WWE Monday Night RAW in Chicago. I was in the arena that night so this will be my first review of a match I saw in-person.

The Facts:
  • This match happened at the Allstate Arena in Chicago, Illinois.
  • Kofi Kingston was the United States Champion during this match. Kofi lost the title to The Miz less than a month later.
  • Michael Cole and Jerry Lawler were the announcers for this match.
  • This match was the main event of WWE Superstars.
  • This match has an unofficial 5:06 time length.
The Match:

Jack Swagger and Kofi Kingston start the match. Swagger gets Kofi in a headlock, but Kofi fights out of it. Kofi shoves Swagger into the ropes, but Swagger knocks down Kofi. Swagger bounces off the ropes, jumps over Kofi who is still down on the mat, bounces off the other ropes, Kofi tries to jump onto Swagger, and Swagger catches Kofi. It looks bad for Kofi, but Kofi finds a way to get off Swagger and attempts to turn it into a sunset flip. But Swagger stops it by grabbing Kofi's head. Swagger picks up Kofi and throws him into the ropes. Kofi bounces off the ropes and hits Swagger with a monkey flip. Nice counter. Kofi then hits Swagger with a nice dropkick. Kofi goes for the cover and Swagger kicks out.

Primo tags Kofi and enters the match. Kofi and Primo do a nice double-team combination. After Kofi leaves the ring, Primo hits a nice springboard dropkick off the ring ropes. After kicking out of a pin, Swagger lifts Primo and carries him to the corner where The Miz is standing. Swagger has Primo trapped in the corner, but Primo is able to hit The Miz a couple times with his elbow. Primo is able to battle out of the corner, but Swagger is still in control of the match. Swagger hits a move that looks like a backbreaker, but technically it isn't a backbreaker because Swagger slams Primo's gut onto Swagger's knee. Ouch. Swagger then hits a gutwrench powerbomb. Swagger goes for the pin and Kofi breaks it up before the three-count. Swagger drags Primo to the corner and tags The Miz into the match. It's weird to see The Miz in a tag team match on Superstars, but remember that this was 2009 and before The Miz became the United States Champion. The Miz wasn't a main event star yet. The Miz takes control of the match with some good offense. The Miz has Primo in a headlock, but Primo battles out of it. Primo tries to make a tag, but The Miz stops Primo. The Miz then knocks Kofi off the ring apron. The Miz goes for a clothesline, but Primo counters it with a nice offensive takedown. "Offensive takedown" is another word for "I'm not really sure what move Primo just executed". It looks like a reverse Skull Crushing Finale with the back of The Miz's head hitting the mat instead of his face.

Primo makes the tag and here comes Kofi! Kofi hits a bunch of offensive moves like all faces do right after they get tagged into the match. Kofi sets up the Boom Drop, but Swagger pulls The Miz out of the ring. Kofi grabs the ropes and springs himself out of the ring and onto The Miz! Nice move! Primo joins the fun by doing a suicide dive to the outside onto Swagger! Kofi throws The Miz back into the ring. Kofi jumps off the top turnbuckle and hits The Miz with a crossbody. The Miz is pinned...one...two...and a kick-out! Swagger and Primo are still outside. Inside the ring, Kofi tries to Irish Whip The Miz into the ropes, but The Miz reverses it and Irish Whips Kofi into the ropes. Swagger is on the apron, but Kofi runs into him and forces Swagger off the apron. The Miz hits Kofi from behind and hits the Skull Crushing Finale. The Miz pins Kofi and gets the three-count.

Winners: The Miz and Jack Swagger

Rating: **1/4

That was a decent match. The beginning of the match was mediocre, but the last minute or two of the match was exciting. Not a great match, but it was good for a Superstars match. I remember that this was one of the best matches of the entire night including the matches from RAW. The superstars in this match did a nice job. The only superstar from this match who has been promoted to the upper card level is The Miz. It's unfortunate that Kofi, Primo, and Swagger all are still in mid-card hell. This match was a quick match so it's not a huge waste of time if you have never seen this match before.

    1. Primo debuted on August 18, 2008. Primo is one of those guys that I keep thinking that he was future endeavored but he wasn't. Not only is he still in the WWE, he is one-half of the Tag Team Champions!

  2. 3 1/2 years isn't bad at all and he has that plucky, babyface energy if they ever need it in the future.

  3. But he could last and have a nice career in the WWE. You never know.
