WrestleMania 29 Preview

WrestleMania 29 is almost here! I'm excited about this year's WrestleMania. The build-up hasn't been very good, but if the main event matches meet expectations and there are a couple good mid-card matches, this will be an awesome WrestleMania. Here is my preview of all the scheduled matches not including the pre-show. I will preview the matches in the order I think they will happen.

World Heavyweight Championship: Alberto Del Rio (c) vs. Jack Swagger

I think it's very likely this will be the opening match. This match has a good storyline, but I'm not excited about this match. WWE's Swagger push is a few years too late. 2010 was the right time to push Swagger. I'm not a big Swagger fan right now and I was never a fan of Del Rio. This should be a good match, but I'm not expecting a great match and I won't be surprised if the match is boring.

Winner: Alberto Del Rio

WWE Tag Team Championship: Team Hell No (c) vs. Dolph Ziggler & Big E Langston

This feels like Daniel Bryan's WrestleMania debut. His first match was on the pre-show and his second match was 18 seconds. Bryan is not in a good position to steal the show, but that doesn't mean he can't have a very enjoyable match. It will be fun to watch Bryan and Ziggler wrestle each other at WrestleMania. I would like to see Kane and Bryan drop the titles, but I don't think it makes sense for Ziggler to be a tag team champion and a Money in the Bank briefcase holder at the same time.

Winners: Team Hell No

Ryback vs. Mark Henry

This is a first-time ever match-up, but it feels like I have seen this match before. This match-up reminds me of the Big Show vs. Mark Henry rivalry. Their matches weren't bad, but they weren't very entertaining either. Ryback and Mark Henry can have great matches, but that usually happens against a great worker like CM Punk. I could wrong and this could be an awesome match, but I'm not optimistic that this will be a great match. All I want to see is Ryback hit Henry with Shell Shocked and it won't matter how fun or boring this match is.

Winner: Ryback

Triple H vs. Brock Lesnar

This match needs blood! I'm not expecting it to happen, but I think both men might bleed and that would help this match a lot. Their SummerSlam match was disappointing, but I think this match could be very good and a lot better than people were expecting. I will be disappointed if no one bleeds. I really think this match needs blood.

Winner: Triple H

Chris Jericho vs. Fandango

Here is the sleeper match of the night. I love the Fandango storyline and I love that WWE waited until WrestleMania for his debut. I really want to see him wrestle in a match! His opponent is Chris Jericho so I know this is going to be a great match. I'm really looking forward to this match. I think many people expect Fandango to win, but I don't think that will happen. I'm guessing Jericho wins this match because he's the veteran and then Fandango will win the rematch at Extreme Rules.

Winner: Chris Jericho

Randy Orton, Sheamus & Big Show vs. The Shield

This is another match I want to see. It's The Shield's WrestleMania debut and I got a feeling that they want to do something special at WrestleMania. This is their chance to make WrestleMania history and I think they can do it. I haven't seen any of their Pay-Per-View matches, but I have read that the matches have been awesome.

Winners: The Shield

The Undertaker vs. CM Punk

This should be the match of the night. This is the best match-up of the show and it has the best storyline. I'm thinking this could be Undertaker's last match so this could be his last chance to use his streak to make someone famous. If anyone's going to end the streak, CM Punk is one of the best candidates on the WWE roster right now. If Punk ends the streak, this could be a five star classic. Last year, I made a bold prediction by picking The Rock. This year, I'm making another bold prediction.

Winner: CM Punk

Tons of Funk & The Funkadactyls vs. Team Rhodes Scholars & The Bella Twins

Good bathroom break match right before the main event.

Winners: The Funks

Twice in a Lifetime for the WWE Championship: Dwayne Johnson vs. John Cena

Last year, this match-up was one of the most anticipated match-ups of all-time. This was a dream match for me. The biggest superstar of my generation against the biggest superstar of today's generation. The 90s vs. the 21st century. This year, it's my least favorite main event match-up. I think this match could be better than last year's match, but I'm not interested in this match. The Rock is my favorite wrestler of all-time and I think the only wrestler who could change that in the future is CM Punk. Unfortunately, The Rock is not in this match. John Cena's opponent is Dwayne Johnson who calls himself The Rock, but he's not the same Rock I grew up watching. It's obvious to me that Dwayne cares more about his movie career than wrestling. Back in 2000, The Rock did TV shows and movies if his wrestling schedule allowed it. Now, Rock does wrestling if his movie schedule allows it. If Rock needs to promote his movie or make an appearance for his movie and it's Monday, that means Dwayne is missing RAW. I would be okay with that if Dwayne wasn't the WWE Champion. To me, the WWE Champion is the main character of WWE and the main character should be on every show. I didn't like seeing him missing RAWs and CM Punk feels the same way. Punk was asked by ESPN, "Do you think it’s bad for the company when the champion isn’t even on the show?" Punk replied, "I do, yeah, but it’s not my company, so that’s where we are with that." If Punk ever writes a book, I would expect to read that he was not happy when WWE told him he was dropping the title to Dwayne and Dwayne would debut the new WWE Championship title that was rumored to be Punk's title. The good thing about this match is that Dwayne will lose and go back to Hollywood (after losing the rematch at Extreme Rules). I'm not a big Cena fan, but I have gained a lot more respect for him. Cena deserves to be WWE Champion more than Dwayne. I'm rooting for Cena to beat Dwayne (I can't believe I just wrote that) and I would love to see Cena turn heel.

Winner: John Cena

I have read that many people are not excited about this WrestleMania, but if this WrestleMania is booked right, it could be the greatest WrestleMania of all-time. This WrestleMania will be special if one of these things happen (and if none of this things happen, I think this will be only an average WrestleMania): Punk ends the streak, rain at WrestleMania, Cena turns heel, Triple H and Lesnar have the first bloodbath of the PG Era (Lesnar-Cena didn't have enough blood in my opinion), and Ziggler becomes the first man to cash in his briefcase at WrestleMania. If all of those things happen, I can't imagine how awesome that would be. I would be happy if just one of those things happen.

Here are my match rating predictions with time predictions (best rating means the most stars I am expecting it to get and worst rating means the least stars I am expecting it to get):

World Heavyweight Championship: Alberto Del Rio (c) vs. Jack Swagger (13 minutes)

Best rating: ****1/4
Worst rating: **

WWE Tag Team Championship: Team Hell No (c) vs. Dolph Ziggler & Big E Langston (10 minutes)

Best rating: ***3/4
Worst rating: *1/2

Ryback vs. Mark Henry (11 minutes)

Best rating: ***1/2
Worst rating: *

Triple H vs. Brock Lesnar (21 minutes)

Best rating: *****
Worst rating: **1/4

Chris Jericho vs. Fandango (12 minutes)

Best rating: ****
Worst rating: *1/2

Randy Orton, Sheamus & Big Show vs. The Shield (18 minutes)

Best rating: ****1/4
Worst rating: **1/2

The Undertaker vs. CM Punk (30 minutes)

Best rating: *****
Worst rating: ***1/2

Tons of Funk & The Funkadactyls vs. Team Rhodes Scholars & The Bella Twins (6 minutes)

Best rating: **
Worst rating: *

Twice in a Lifetime for the WWE Championship: Dwayne Johnson vs. John Cena (25 minutes)

Best rating: *****
Worst rating: ***

So best case scenario, there could be 6 four star matches at WrestleMania 29.

  1. I love the best/worst rating bit! You need to do that more often!

    1. That's something I just threw in there at the last minute. My estimates could be way off, but I just wanted to show what I think is the best/worst to expect from each match.

I need your predictions Kip! Do you got any?

    2. It's odd, because I see a lot of matches that look clear as far as who will win, but I'm not totally sure. Honestly, I think the mixed tag match might be the easiest to predict and that's only due to Brodus Clay having a movie coming out in a month; that he'll be getting a push. All other, I can easily see going either way.

    3. Really? That's very interesting. I think I might get some of my predictions wrong because I didn't go the "safe" route. It seems like almost every match has a winner everyone is expecting (everyone is expecting Cena to win, Triple H to win, Ryback to win, The Shield to win, Undertaker to win, Fandango to win, etc.) and I hope WWE doesn't make the show too predictable. Some of the TV shows I watch really keep me guessing what will happen and it makes me disappointed that WWE doesn't do the same. Too often, I feel like I know exactly what they are gonna do and that shouldn't happen. They should try to make the fans look stupid and do what no one was expecting.

    4. I can see Rock winning, leading to a Cena heel turn. I can see Brock wanting a win in his contract. Ryback could turn heel, so it wouldn't shock me to see a loss for him, making him think some cheating could help. I can see Team WWE Avengers winning, because something else needs to happen to The Shield(like a loss). I'm seeing more and more thinking Punk could end the streak. In fact, Taker is supportive of this. Sorry, but I can't buy Fandango beat somebody like Jericho in his first match, unless there was cheating going on. I'm not saying any of these will happen, but I can legit see them.
