Random Wrestling Match Review (September 30, 2012)

Welcome to my Random Wrestling Match Review. Each match I review is randomly selected by using a random number generator to select a number. After getting my random number, I go to my list of 500+ wrestling matches on DVD and review the match that has that number. This week, I am reviewing match #196 from my list. The match I will review is...

Dudley Boyz vs. Spike Dudley & Balls Mahoney (Chicago Street Fight for the ECW Tag Team Championship, ECW Hardcore TV, 7/5/99)

The Facts:
  • I read online that this match happened on June 17, 1999 in Villa Park, IL at the Odeum Expo Center. Taz lost the ECW World Heavyweight Championship later that year at the same arena because he was leaving ECW and joining the WWF.
  • This was one of many Chicago Street Fights. Most recently, there was a Chicago Street Fight at Extreme Rules 2012 between CM Punk and Chris Jericho. There was also a Chicago Street Fight at WrestleMania 13 and a WCW Chicago Street Fight that I reviewed earlier this year featuring Cactus Jack.
  • Balls Mahoney was in the WWE from 2005 to 2008. According to Wikipedia, "On August 20, 2011, Mahoney no-showed an [independent wrestling] event in Ottawa, IL against Mad Man Pondo. This show was to be the last for the promotion and was a benefit show for the American Cancer Society. The promoters apologized and said that he had missed his flight. They said that they had gotten him a ticket for a later flight, but due to the severe weather that had gone through the Chicago area earlier in the day, he was not going to be able to make it. After his match, his scheduled opponent, Mad Man Pondo, said that Mahoney had the plane ticket, but chose not to use it."
  • Spike Dudley was in the WWE from 2001 to 2005. He was a former third grade teacher from Rhode Island before becoming a wrestler. Spike appeared in the movie "Beyond The Mat" and he retired from wrestling in 2010. Spike is now a financial planner.
  • D-Von Dudley announced his departure from TNA on August 29, 2012. Buh Buh Ray Dudley signed a two-year extension with TNA this month.
  • This match can be seen on the Blood Sport: ECW's Most Violent Matches DVD.
  • This match had an unofficial 13:24 time length.

The Match:

The action in this match is too fast paced so I will just give you a list of highlights from the match.
  • Spike Dudley did a nice hurracarrana on Buh Buh Ray Dudley in the corner.
  • Balls Mahoney tossed Spike out of the ring and onto the Dudley Boyz.
  • Someone tossed a cheese grater to Buh Buh Ray and he used it on Spike's face.
  • Spike got revenge and used the cheese grater on Buh Buh Ray.
  • Balls had a fork and used in on D-Von Dudley's face.
  • Spike jumped off the railing of the second deck and landed on the Dudley Boyz in the crowd.
  • Everyone in this match wore the crimson mask.
  • Three times Spike and Balls hit their moves on the Dudley Boyz at the same time and pinned them at the same time. The Dudley Boyz kicked out each time.
  • Spike got hit on the head with a dust pan.
  • Balls whacked both Buh Buh Ray and D-Von on the head with a chair.
  • Balls was powerbombed through a flaming table and the Dudley Boyz get the win.

Winners: The Dudley Boyz

Rating: ****1/4

This is a great ECW match. If someone wants to see an ECW match, this is one of the matches you should show that person. A lot of blood, a lot of violence, and it is what all street fights should look like. My only complaint is that it wasn't long enough and I would have like to see more weapons used. Not the most extreme ECW match, but definitely one of my favorite ECW matches.

  1. The only time in my life that I didn't mind hearing the two words "spike" and "balls" together.
