The Keg Stand: My Top 10 Favorite WWE DVDs

I own many WWE DVDs. I don't own as much as the fans who collect WWE DVDs but I think I have more than the average WWE fan. I'm not trying to collect them. The WWE makes good DVDs and unfortunately, they aren't shown on TV. If you want to see the new Stone Cold documentary, you have to pay to see it. Maybe the WWE Network will air some of the many WWE documentaries but until then, you have to either buy the DVD or rent it using Netflix or your cable's On-Demand service. I could rent WWE DVDs but usually I find the DVDs for so cheap that it's cheaper to buy the DVD. I got many of my DVDs at a heavily discounted price. I recently brought The Ladder Match DVD and the shipping and handling cost almost the same as what I paid for the DVD. I have so many WWE DVDs that I decided to create a list of my top 10 favorite WWE DVDs.

10. WWE Royal Rumble- The Complete Anthology, Vol. 3 (1998-2002)

I found this DVD set on Amazon for almost half the price it was originally selling for. The main reason I bought it was because of the 1999 Royal Rumble event. The event featured The Rock vs. Mankind in an "I Quit" match. That is a very rare match. The Rock's newest DVD that will be released later this month will have that match, but until then, I think Vol. 3 of the Royal Rumble Anthology is the only DVD that has that match. In addition to the "I Quit" match, the DVD set includes the Attitude Era Royal Rumble events from 1998 to 2002.

The 1998 Royal Rumble includes:
  • The Rock vs. Ken Shamrock which is an entertaining match
  • The Legion of Doom vs. The New Age Outlaws, two of the greatest tag teams in WWE history
  • The 1998 Royal Rumble match that was won by Stone Cold and featured Cactus Jack, Mankind, and Dude Love in the same match
  • The famous Undertaker vs. Shawn Michaels casket match
The 1999 Royal Rumble includes:
  • The Mankind vs. The Rock "I Quit" match
  • Stone Cold as #1 and Mr. McMahon as #2 in the Royal Rumble match with Mr. McMahon winning the Royal Rumble
The 2000 Royal Rumble includes:
  • The Hardy Boyz vs. The Dudley Boyz in the first ever tag team tables match
  • The famous Cactus Jack vs. Triple H Madison Square Garden Street Fight
  • The Rock's controversial Royal Rumble match win
The 2001 Royal Rumble includes:
  • The classic Jericho vs. Benoit ladder match
  • A great tag team match between The Dudley Boyz and Edge & Christian
  • The 2001 Royal Rumble match which was one of the best Royal Rumble matches of all time and included Drew Carey
The 2002 Royal Rumble includes:
  • A great match between Chris Jericho and The Rock
  • Ric Flair vs. Mr. McMahon in a street fight
  • Triple H winning the Royal Rumble match for the first time in his career

9. Stone Cold Steve Austin: The Bottom Line on the Most Popular Superstar of All Time

I have owned this DVD for only one month and already it has made my top 10 DVDs list. I didn't like the match selection because I own almost every match on other WWE DVDs. What I love about this DVD is the full-length documentary and the special features. I really enjoyed the documentary. A lot of stuff that was discussed in the documentary were stuff I already knew because I read his book and I own The Legacy of Stone Cold Steve Austin DVD but I learned a lot of new things about Stone Cold's career. The documentary had a lot of great interviews with people in the wrestling business and it included some rare footage of Austin's WWE career. The DVD set also included a disc that only had Stone Cold promos and segments. Although I own almost all of the Stone Cold-Mr. McMahon segments on DVD, there were several promos and segments I had never seen before. The last thing I enjoyed was Stone Cold and Jim Ross's commentary during three of the matches on the DVD. I already had seen those three matches before but I enjoyed watching them again while listening to Stone Cold and JR analyze the match. Thanks to their commentary, I noticed stuff during the matches that I never noticed before. The match selection is great for any Stone Cold fan who doesn't own many WWE DVDs. Almost all of Stone Cold's greatest matches are on this DVD. If you own the The Legacy of Stone Cold Steve Austin DVD, the Stone Cold-Rock WM17 match is the only repeat match. This DVD is a must-see for any Stone Cold fan.

8. WWE Greatest Stars of the 90s

I enjoyed the full-length documentary of this DVD. The 90s were great for wrestling and the list of wrestlers featured in the documentary is amazing. The list of wrestlers include Shawn Michaels, Stone Cold, The Rock, Hulk Hogan, Ric Flair, Mick Foley, Undertaker, Bret Hart, Sting, Owen Hart, and Triple H. But what helped put this DVD in my top 10 were the extras. This DVD isn't loaded with the most memorable matches but I like the match selection. The matches include Hulk Hogan vs. Ric Flair in Madison Square Garden, Bret Hart vs. Shawn Michaels at the 1992 Survivor Series (not the screwjob match), a five-star classic between Bret Hart and Owen Hart at WrestleMania X, Mankind vs. Hunter Hearst Helmsley in a steel cage match at SummerSlam 1997, Sting vs. Bret Hart, and the famous Stone Cold vs. Undertaker match at SummerSlam 1998. Other extras include an old Hunter Hearst Helmsley vignette while he had his rich guy gimmick, The Rock's eulogy at Stone Cold's "funeral", a Razor Ramon vignette, Shawn Michaels's press conference before WrestleMania XI where he famously said, "I will give you a show like you have never ever seen before. Why? Because I can", and DX re-enacting the Montreal Screwjob. There are so many good stuff on this DVD.

7. The History of the WWE Championship

This DVD is probably the perfect DVD for anyone who doesn't own any WWE DVDs. One of the oldest matches I owned before this DVD was the Hulk Hogan vs. Iron Sheik match from 1984. This DVD has six matches older than that! The old matches aren't great but they include legends like Bruno Sammartino, Killer Kowalski, Ivan Koloff, Pedro Morales, Superstar Billy Graham, Bob Backlund, Greg Valentine, and Sgt. Slaughter. The amount of classic matches on this DVD is insane! It includes Hulk Hogan vs. Iron Shiek (Hogan's first WWE Title win), Hulk Hogan vs. Andre The Giant at WrestleMania III, Macho Man vs. Hogan at WrestleMania V, Hogan vs. Ultimate Warrior at WrestleMania VI, Bret Hart vs. Owen Hart steel cage match at SummerSlam 1994, Bret Hart vs. Shawn Michaels iron man match at WrestleMania XII, Shawn Michaels vs. Mankind at Mind Games, Shawn Michaels vs. Stone Cold at WrestleMania XIV, Triple H vs. Cactus Jack street fight at the 2000 Royal Rumble, The Rock vs. Stone Cold at WrestleMania X-7, Chris Jericho beating Stone Cold to become the first-ever Undisputed Champion, Kurt Angle vs. Chris Benoit at the 2003 Royal Rumble, and many more matches. I owned many of these matches before I bought this DVD but there were some matches I didn't own and still only own on this DVD. Those matches include the Iron Man match, the Bret vs. Owen cage match, and the Benoit vs. Angle match. I bought this DVD for a very low price so owning those three matches made this DVD worth it. The Angle vs. Benoit match is amazing and I would love to watch it again sometime soon. Also included in this DVD is a cool special feature that shows every time the WWE Championship changed hands from 1963 to 2006. This does not include every title change because some of them weren't televised and every title change lasts about only 5 to 10 seconds but it is very cool to see how each wrestler won the title.

6. Hell in a Cell: The Greatest Hell in a Cell Matches of All Time

Anyone who loved the old Hell in a Cell matches before the WWE became PG should buy this DVD. Obviously it includes the famous Undertaker vs. Mankind match but it also includes great matches like Undertaker vs. Shawn Michaels, Brock Lesnar vs. Undertaker, Cactus Jack vs. Triple H, and Randy Orton vs. Undertaker. It also includes rare matches like the Six-Man Armageddon Hell in a Cell match and Kane vs. Mankind from RAW. The only great Hell in a Cell match not on this DVD is Undertaker vs. Edge from SummerSlam 2008 and that's because that match happened after the DVD was finished. All of the blood is uncensored and this DVD is hosted by Mick Foley.

5. WrestleMania 24

WrestleMania 24 was a great event. There were five great matches: the Money in the Bank ladder match won by CM Punk, Ric Flair vs. Shawn Michaels (Flair's final WWE match), Randy Orton vs. Triple H vs. John Cena, Big Show vs. Floyd "Money" Mayweather, and Edge vs. Undertaker. The event also had a special appearance by Snoop Dogg and was held outdoors. It is one of my favorite WrestleManias but the reason it is at #5 on my list is because of the WWE Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony included on the DVD. Unlike the ceremony that aired on TV, the ceremony on the DVD is completely uncut and unedited. The two highlights of the Hall of Fame Ceremony were The Rock and Ric Flair. The Rock made a rare WWE appearance because he was inducting his father and grandfather into the Hall of Fame. The Rock spent 25 minutes talking before he finally inducted his dad into the Hall of Fame. Some people were mad at The Rock because he talked for too long and turned the Hall of Fame into a roast, but I enjoyed every second of it. The best part of the Ceremony was Ric Flair's speech. Triple H spent about 10 minutes talking about Ric Flair before inducting him into the Hall of Fame. When Ric Flair did his speech, he talked for over an hour! Flair talked for a long time but his speech was very interesting. I enjoyed Triple H's speech too because he shared some interesting stories about Flair. That is my favorite WWE Hall of Fame Ceremony and that combined with a great WrestleMania event creates an awesome DVD.

4. Breaking The Code: Behind the Walls of Chris Jericho

When I heard Chris Jericho was getting his own DVD, I knew I had to buy it. Jericho is one of my favorite wrestlers and I enjoyed reading his first book. I enjoyed watching Jericho's documentary on the DVD. Jericho has been in the WWE since 1999 but he has been wrestling since 1990. I don't often care about what a wrestler did before joining the WWE but Jericho's pre-WWE career was very interesting. His first book ends right before he made his WWF debut and that book is one of my favorite wrestling books. The DVD includes seven non-WWE matches. I would have liked to see some of his matches from Mexico or Europe, but it was fun to see some of his matches that happened before he joined the WWE. The DVD also includes a match of him wrestling in Japan. This DVD has Jericho's best WWE matches. It has his WrestleMania match with Shawn Michaels, his win over Stone Cold to become Undisputed Champion, an amazing No Mercy match against The Rock, his 2008 ladder match against Shawn Michaels, one of his matches against Rey Mysterio during the amazing Jericho-Mysterio feud in 2009, and his match against Edge at WrestleMania 26. What I also liked is that his best moments are included on the DVD including his "Man of 1,004 Holds" promo, his "Conspiracy Victim" segment, his WWE debut, and his return to the WWE in 2007. The DVD also includes a great segment with The Rock and Jericho from RAW, a post-RAW segment with Jericho and Stone Cold, a post-Smackdown segment from 2009 that shows Jericho getting into in an argument with an old man in the crowd, and a video that shows Jericho's funniest moments in WCW and WWE. Jericho also does alternate commentary on three of the matches. I don't think Jericho needs to make another DVD because I think all of Jericho's greatest moments are on this DVD.

3. The Rock- The Most Electrifying Man in Sports Entertainment

The Rock is my favorite WWE Superstar of all-time so I had to buy his DVD. The biggest disappointment about this DVD is that it doesn't have a full-length documentary and The Rock didn't do an interview for this DVD. What I like about this DVD is the matches and the promos. There are 19 matches on this DVD and many of them are great. The Rock had many great rivalries and the WWE didn't just pick one match from each rivalry. There are four Triple H vs. The Rock matches! There are three Mankind vs. The Rock matches! There are nine matches from either RAW or Smackdown so many of these matches were on DVD for the first time. Some of my favorite matches that I don't own on any other DVD include The Rock vs. Stone Cold at WrestleMania XIX, Kurt Angle vs. The Rock at No Way Out 2001, The Rock vs. Triple H steel cage match from RAW, Mankind vs. The Rock last man standing match at St. Valentine's Day Massacre, and Triple H vs. The Rock at Backlash 2000. This DVD also includes 16 of The Rock's promos. The problem is that most of them are when he was a face. The oldest promo is from July 1999. They are also his funny promos. I liked his funny promos but The Rock was good at cutting serious promos too. The WWE should have made an entire disc of promos because I liked The Rock as an entertainer more than a wrestler. The promos the WWE included on the DVD were very good and entertaining. This DVD could have been better but The Rock is my favorite Superstar so I really enjoyed this DVD.

2. Mick Foley- Greatest Hits & Misses (Hardcore Edition)

Mick Foley is my second favorite WWE Superstar of all-time. The reason why his DVD is #2 and The Rock's DVD is #3 is because Mick Foley's DVD was better. Like The Rock's DVD, there is no documentary on this DVD. However, Foley is the host of the DVD, introduces each match on the DVD, and does alternate commentary during six of the matches. I have the Hardcore Edition which has a third disc. The original DVD release only had two discs. This DVD has the best match selection I have ever seen. This was one of the few times I actually believed the WWE when they said that Mick Foley hand-picked the matches. There are 21 matches on this DVD. 17 of them are enjoyable matches. There are also many DVD extras including a Mick Foley WWE match from 1986, Cactus Jack spitting on the WCW belt, and the famous "Cane Dewey" promo. Mick Foley has three favorite matches: his WCW match vs. Sting, his match vs. Shawn Michaels, and his match vs. Randy Orton. All three of those matches are on his DVD. Many of the matches he mentioned in his first three books are on this DVD. I would like to see another Mick Foley DVD but only because I want to see a documentary. Everything else has already been covered on this amazing DVD.

1. The Best of RAW 15th Anniversary (1993-2008)

My favorite WWE DVD is ironically the first WWE DVD I ever purchased. This DVD was released in late 2007 which was when I was not watching wrestling. I stopped watching wrestling in 2002. I saw this DVD advertised somewhere and I wanted to see it because I enjoyed watching RAW when I was younger. I think I brought this DVD in early 2008. Shortly after that, I started watching the last few RAWs before WrestleMania 24 and I have been a full-time wrestling fan ever since. I can't remember if this DVD was the reason I got back into wrestling but if it is, then I definitely agree with my decision to put this DVD at #1. You know this is a good DVD when someone who hasn't watched wrestling in six years buys it. I love this DVD. It says 2008 on the cover but the DVD stops at 2007. It covers the best moments of RAW's first 14 years. Like all DVDs, they left out some good moments and matches but I think the WWE did a very good job with this DVD. The first disc covers 1993 to 1997. It includes Shawn Michaels's concussion during his match vs. Owen Hart, Shawn Michaels losing his smile, Pillman's got a gun, the original ECW invasion, the famous "Bret Screwed Bret" interview, and Stone Cold stunning Mr. McMahon for the first time. Disc two covers the Attitude Era and includes Tyson and Austin, DX invading WCW, Stone Cold and the zamboni, the debut of Mr. Socko, Mr. McMahon's Cement Corvette, Mankind winning the WWE Championship, Stone Cold Beer Truck, Chris Jericho's debut, The Rock: This is your Life, a recap of Stephanie and Test's failed marriage ceremony, Jericho "winning" the WWE Championship for the first time, and The Rock challenging Hulk Hogan to a WrestleMania match. The third disc covers 2003 to 2008 and includes The Rock Concert, the Shawn Michaels vs. Kurt Angle iron man match, Stone Cold stunning the McMahons during the USA Network Homecoming RAW, and Edge and Lita's live sex celebration. My only complaint is that there aren't enough matches featuring The Rock and Stone Cold. I love how this DVD has many segments. I enjoy putting one of these discs into my DVD player, going to the chapters menu, and selecting the segments I want to watch. I love watching this DVD.

I don't think I am done buying WWE DVDs. I hope to buy more in the future especially if I can continue to get them at cheap prices. I can't wait to watch all of my new The Ladder Match DVD and I hope to someday add it to my list of favorite WWE DVDs.

    1. Chyna's DVDs are not official WWE DVDs. And the WWE hasn't produced "WWE Best of Diva Gimmick Matches" DVD hosted by The Bella Twins. Matches would include the Terri Runnels vs. The Kat stinkface match at SummerSlam 2000 and the four corners evening gown pool match at Armageddon 1999.

  2. True about Chyna. What about the soon to be "Dildo on a pole" match?

  4. When Eric Bischoff was on RAW, he promised "H.L.A." and that stood for Hot Lesbian Action. It did happen once or twice.
